Open Studio Days in Vilnius: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at My Illustration Practice

In April, I opened the doors of my studio in Vilnius for a special three-day event, welcoming visitors to explore my creative world. These open studio days offered a unique opportunity to share my illustration work, creative process, and newest projects in an intimate and personal setting.

Hosting my first open studio was both exciting and rewarding. As a digital illustrator, I wanted to create an experience that showcased not only finished artworks but also the ideas, experimentation, and craftsmanship behind them.

Throughout the weekend, guests discovered a curated selection of editorial illustrations, sketches, and works in progress. A highlight of the event was my newest illustration series in development Grown-up Playground, presented from rough concepts to refined compositions and test prints. I also displayed a packaging concept to demonstrate how my illustrations translate into real-world applications.

My main desk featured a case study of a recent commission, illustrating the journey from concept to completion. One particularly engaging example showed how I used a coin on hand as a reference to develop a visual narrative - offering insight into my research-driven and resourceful approach to illustration.

Even imperfect test prints became part of the story, sparking conversations about color accuracy and the importance of high-quality printing for digital artwork.

A Glimpse Into My Creative Process

An Intimate Studio Experience

The studio was thoughtfully arranged as a miniature gallery, allowing visitors to engage closely with the artwork. Small group visits encouraged meaningful conversations about editorial illustration, visual storytelling, and the realities of working as an illustrator.

Guests were welcomed with coffee, tea, and sweet treats, and received printed cards as tokens of appreciation. I was also delighted to host members of a local women creators’ group, whose visit brought inspiring discussions and a wonderful sense of community.

A Heartfelt Thank You

Thank you to everyone who visited my studio, asked thoughtful questions, and engaged with my work. Your curiosity and support made the weekend truly special. I am deeply grateful for the beautiful flowers and treats that filled the space with warmth.

A special thank you to my little sister for her invaluable help throughout the weekend - from capturing photos and videos to ensuring everything ran smoothly. And to my husband, thank you for your constant encouragement and unwavering support along my creative journey. Without you, it would be so much harder.

Looking Ahead

These open studio days marked an important milestone in my career as an illustrator. The experience reaffirmed the value of sharing not only finished artworks but also the process behind them. I look forward to hosting similar events in the future. Until then, my studio - and my creative journey - remains open.
